Project Overview

Daniel Miret was instrumental in designing and deploying a large-scale security system for a 14-story medical building, owned and operated by a private national hospital system. This extensive security upgrade included 95 security cameras and 25 access-controlled doors, distributed across three network closets and integrated on a Cisco Meraki and Ubiquiti UniFi platform. The objective was to create a secure, cohesive surveillance and access control infrastructure that met the stringent security needs of a high-profile medical facility.

Objectives

1. Establish Comprehensive Surveillance: Provide high-resolution camera coverage across all 14 floors to ensure 24/7 monitoring and bolster building security.

2. Implement Access Control: Equip critical entry points with secure access control to regulate movement and enhance security for authorized personnel.

3. Develop an Integrated Network Platform: Utilize Cisco Meraki and Ubiquiti UniFi devices for a unified, scalable management system across multiple network closets.

4.Meet Healthcare Compliance Standards: Ensure the solution aligns with the regulatory and operational requirements of a healthcare facility owned by a private hospital system.

Solution & Execution

Daniel’s contributions were crucial from the planning to deployment stages, ensuring all components met security and compliance standards. Key actions included:

1. Network Infrastructure Design: Organized and configured three network closets to manage the extensive security system across the building’s 14 floors, optimizing network traffic flow and redundancy.

2. Surveillance Camera Deployment: Positioned 95 high-definition security cameras to cover entry points, hallways, stairwells, and sensitive areas, achieving comprehensive surveillance.

3. Access Control System Installation: Installed 25 access-controlled doors in key locations to restrict access, integrating real-time monitoring and logging for compliance audits.

4. Platform Integration with Cisco Meraki & Ubiquiti UniFi: Leveraged the combined strengths of Cisco Meraki’s cloud-based network management and Ubiquiti UniFi’s flexibility to create a cohesive system, allowing centralized oversight and rapid response to security incidents.

5. Rigorous Testing and Compliance Validation: Conducted extensive system testing and validation to ensure continuous performance and alignment with healthcare security standards.

Results

– Comprehensive Surveillance: Achieved high-definition video coverage for all critical areas, enabling real-time monitoring and incident response capabilities.

– Enhanced Access Control: Implemented a secure access management system with detailed logging, meeting the operational needs and compliance requirements for medical facilities.

– Centralized Management & Monitoring: The Cisco Meraki and Ubiquiti UniFi integration provided a scalable, centralized management system, simplifying maintenance and enhancing security.

– Resilient Operations: Built-in redundancies and secure network closets ensured consistent, uninterrupted security monitoring, even during peak hours and system stress.

Conclusion
Daniel’s technical leadership and attention to security protocols were pivotal to the successful deployment of this enterprise-level security system. The project exemplifies his ability to handle complex security requirements in a healthcare setting, providing a robust, scalable solution that met the needs of a major private national hospital system. The secure, integrated platform continues to support the safety and operational resilience of this high-security medical environment.
